Efendi to represent Azerbaijan in 2021

Following the cancellation of the 2020 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest many broadcasters decided to keep the same artists for 2021. Azerbaijan joins this list as the representative of 2020 Samira Efendi will keep the title and will represent the country in 2021.

The break of the Covid-19 made a huge impact on the world in every possible way and media is no different. After the UEFA championship was postponed to 2021 it was just a matter of time till the EBU will have to face the question with the Eurovision. Earlier this week it was announced that the contest won’t take place this year.

Efendi’s entry for 2020 gained a significant popularity among the contest’s fans shortly after being released. Listen to it here:

Up until 2020 Azerbaijan is among the most successful countries in the contest. It first participated in 2008 where it got placed 8th in the final. Since then it managed to get to the top 10 in 7 occasions out of which 5 are top 5 rankings. The country won the contest in 2011 with “Running scared”. Yet, the country also failed to qualify in 2018 with Aisel and “X my heart” making it the only failure of the country to qualify to date.
