LTV defer decision on Samanta Tina for Eurovsion 2021

Since the announcement of the cancellation of Eurovision 2020, many broadcasters have been quick to confirm that their chosen artist for 2020 will be automatically selected for Eurovision 2021.

This morning we have the first statement from the Latvian broadcaster LTV to say that they will not make a decision until after the current pandemic crisis is behind us.

Latvia had selected Samanta Tina to be their representative for the original contest with her song ‘Still Breathing’, following her victory at the preselection show ‘Supernova’. She quickly became a hit with fans across the globe, with a series of memes and even the creation of a fan group known as ‘The Composers’

The news of the cancellation came as a blow to Samanta, who has often shared that to compete on the Eurovision Stage would be a life dream. In fact she has tried to make it to Eurovision on no fewer than eight occasions (six times for her native Latvia, and twice for Lithuania).

We met with Samanta twice on her Eurovision 2020 journey, and you can see our interviews with her right here:

Samanta has remained positive through various posts to her fans including an Instagram Live concert from her living room. During that show, Samanta appeared to suggest that should Supernova 2021 go ahead as usual that she may well not compete, but today’s news will give her and her fans some hope that she may yet be selected automatically.

You can relive the winning performance of ‘Still Breathing’ from Supernova 2020 right here:
