Sansa: “It’s unbelievable how many Eurovision songs have started to live their own life.”

This Saturday it’s time to find out who’ll be the Finnish representative in Eurovision 2020, when Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) takes place in Tampere Finland. Six contestants compete for a ticket to Rotterdam, and one of those contestants is Sansa, who kindly agreed to answer some questions we sent to her. This is what this talented and experienced musician told us about her career, UMK-song and her relationship to Eurovision:

You have told that you are an Eurovision fan and that participating in the contest has been your dream ever since you were a child. What are your favorite Eurovision songs from the previous Eurovision years?

It is unbelievable how many Eurovision songs have started to live their own life. Abba’s Waterloo is a super classic, Lena’s Satellite a refreshing pop-breeze, and Loreen’s Euphoria still sounds fresh.

You are by far the most experienced artist in this year’s UMK, since you have made a long career both as a singer and a songwriter. Which achievements are you the most proud of in your career so far and why?

I am proud that I’ve been able to do what I love and happy about that I’ve developed diversely as a songwriter.

Do you follow other countries’ national selections for Eurovision? If you do, which ones and do you have some other favorite Eurovision countries besides Finland?

This year I haven’t had time to follow other countries’ selections, but Sweden’s Melodifestivalen I’ve followed previously.

Could you tell us something about your song-writing process? How are your songs usually born?

If I do a song with a guitar, I develop the circulation of the chords first, and the melody and the text are born on top of that. The circulation of the chords affects the feeling of the song, and often I get some tips to the song’s theme from that.

How would you describe your UMK-song ”Lover View” and the message of it?

Lover View is danceable electro-pop song. When one dares to give in to love, wonders can happen.

Could you tell us something about your stage show in UMK?

The show is going to be classy and sensual, I don’t want to reveal more.

What do you do when you don’t do music?

I try to go to gym diligently and I like to read and watch good series and movies. I also do tasks of a music designer for one company.

Besides your own great song, do you have some other favorite song of this year’s UMK-songs?

Thank you very much. This is hard, I can’t pick one favorite, all of them have their own strengths. I’d grant all of them to win!

As a Finnish Eurovision fan, I just have to ask from another Finnish Eurovision fan: Where were you when Lordi won Eurovision and how did you feel about Finland’s first Eurovision victory?

Lordi’s win was so well-earned and it felt unbelievable! It felt like our Finns’ musical self-belief increased by 100 % in one night, it united us! I watched the Eurovision broadcast with friends and we did go to the market square to celebrate the victory.

What would you like to say to our readers and to your fans in Finland and abroad?

It’s great that Lover View has made it to compete of the Finnish Eurovision representation although it’s not quite traditional Eurovision song. Warm and love-filled hugs to my wonderful fans!

Thank you very much for the interview Sansa and good luck to UMK! Sansa will compete in Saturday’s show 5th position with her song Lover View:

If Sansa is your favorite in UMK 2020, remember to vote for her in our poll:
