Australia withdraws from Junior Eurovision 2020!
After yesterday’s announcement that they would not be travelling to Warsaw for the 2020 Junior Eurovision Song Contest this coming November, this morning Australia confirmed that they are withdrawing from the Contest as well.
SBS was responsible for the first two Australian entries in the Contest, before the kid-friendly ABC ME took over for the following three entries. SBS was supposed to take back the participation this year, but now a spokesperson from this broadcaster confirmed to Australia’s TV Tonight their withdrawal due to COVID-19 uncertainty and travel restrictions:
Due to the current travel restrictions and the ongoing uncertainty around this situation, Australia will not be competing in the Junior Eurovision Contest 2020.
Australia debuted in Junior Eurovision back in 2015, and took part five times in total, reaching a top 10 result every single time. Their best result is third place in 2017 and 2018, when Isabella Clarke and Jael Wena represented their country. Jordan Anthony represented Australia last year in Gliwice with “We Will Rise” and finished in 8th place.
