Sanremo to be held a month late next year

Italy’s broadcaster Rai has confirmed that the annual Sanremo Music Festival will take place from 2nd to 6th March next year.

Rai’s director, Stefano Coletta, confirmed the new dates on Thursday when introducing the broadcaster’s 2020-2021 season.

Coletta also confirmed that Amadeus Sebastiani and Rosario Fiorello who hosted the show this year will also present the show next year.

Though the festival has been confirmed, other things are still unsure such as the venue. The usual venue Teatro Ariston can fit around 2,000 people, however with social distancing measures this could mean that either the venue will hold substantially less people or the venue could be elsewhere.

Other things which haven’t yet been confirmed include if Diodato who was due to represent Italy this year will return, or if Italy will even take part in Eurovision next year.

Although the winner of Sanremo usually goes on to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest, Italy is yet to confirm their participation for next year’s contest. Last year Italy confirmed that they’d be taking part in October.
