As Variety reports The American Song Contest is planned for the 2021 holiday season. The organizers of Eurovision Song Contest have partnered with Propagate Content in order to make this a reality.
American Song Contest will be working by similar rules as Eurovision Song Contest as it is planned that artists from across the whole nation will represent their state (instead of country) every music genre is allowed to take part but each act can consist of maximum 6 performers. Every participant will perform their original songs during the live TV event while all the participants will previously need to go head-to-head competing to be the state representatives in the qualifier rounds. Those will then lead to the semi-finals and the Grand Final.
The juries will be The American Song Contest Academy which consists of U.S.-based music professionals of every music genre. Same as in Eurovision, acts which will advance are going to be chosen based on jury and audience selections.
The executive producer of the show is going to be Ben Silverman his previous works include the American version of “The Office”, “The Biggest Loser”, “Ugly Betty”, “Jane The Virgin”. “The Weakest Link” and many other.
Producers of the US spin-off and owners of rights are: Anders Lenhoff, Christer Björkman, Ola Melzig and Peter Settman.
“Imagine if music was an Olympic sport and artists from all over the world came together to compete for the gold. That’s the Eurovision Song Contest. The American version will be different than anything seen before on U.S. television, marrying the fanfare and excitement of March Madness and the NFL playoffs with the artistry and beauty of world-class performances.”
