After a three day marathon of reveals, today SVT have confirmed the final 10 artists that will be participating at Melodifestivalen 2021 over the next few months taking the count to 28. Make sure to check out our recaps of the previous two days, day one including Danny Saucedo and Arvingarna and day two including Charlotte Perrelli and Dotter.

Lets get on with it!

The Mamas – “In The Middle”

Songwriters: Emily Falvey, Robin Stjernberg, Jimmy Jansson

The Mamas are back! They won this year with the song ‘Move’ and were supposed to be representing Sweden in Rotterdam back in May before the Eurovision cancellation was announced. However, they haven’t let their disappointment put them off as they are back for a second year in a row – and third if you count their appearance as John Lundvik’s winning backing singers in 2019. We’ve already written a full article about their announcement with more information about their song which you can check out here, but in the mean time make sure to check out their winning performance of ‘Move’. Could they win it back-to-back?

Jessica Andersson – “Horizon”

Songwriters: David Kreuger, Fredrik Kempe, Marcus Lidén, Christian Holmström

Another classic returnee in Jessica Andersson was the second to be announced this morning! She started out in famous duo Fame along with Magnus Bäcklund where they won Melodifestivalen in 2003, going on to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest that year hosted in Riga with ‘Give Me Your Love’ ultimately finishing 5th.

However, since then she has also competed at Melodifestivalen five times to date with 2018 being her latest appearance. In 2018, she sung ‘Party Voice’ and sailed straight through to the final before placing 11th. Are you a fan? From the looks of it, it may well be a similar schlager song for her sixth appearance.

Sannex – “All Inclusive”

Songwriters: Greta Svensson, Hans Thorstensson

In what is proving to be a big year celebrating Swedish diversity, Sannex is the next group to debut at Mello! The dansband have had a hugely successful career over the years, releasing over 10 albums across 3 decades. Whilst their lineup has changed a few times over the years, their music style has stayed consistent. There is no doubting that they’ll be bringing a dansband bop to the contest!

Clara Klingenström – “Behöver inte dig idag”

Songwriters: Clara Klingenström, Bobby Ljunggren, David Lindgren Zacharias

The next debutant, Clara Klingenström, is relatively new to Sweden’s music scene, releasing her debut single ‘Ensam i en stad’ last year. The young singer/songwriter has also helped to write her song which promises good things!

Efraim Leo – “Best Of Me”

Songwriters: Efraim Leo, Cornelia Jakobsdotter, Amanda Björkegren, Herman Gardarfve

The next debutant to be announced is Efraim Leo! Another young singer, he rose to fame at a young age back in 2016 as a featured artist but his solo debut came last year. In the short time he’s been on the circuit he has released many songs including ‘One Of Them Girls’, ‘Talk To Me’ and his latest single ‘When I Wanted You’. Listening to some of his songs there are definite comparisons that could be made to 2018 winner Benjamin Ingrosso. Could this debutant follow in Benjamin’s tracks?

Tusse – “Voices”

Songwriters: Joy Deb, Linnea Deb, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Anderz Wrethov

Tusse is another Melodifestivalen debutant however his debut comes with a lot of anticipation! Tusse, born in 2002, competed in Swedish Idol last year where he went on to win the competition! On the show he impressed with his versatility, soulful vocals and performance ability. Among his performances he even touched on Eurovision with ‘Rise Like A Phoenix’ which you can check out below. Recently he recently his single ‘Crash’ which is a suspicious 3 minutes long. The very on-trend pop song makes good use of synth beats and could easily have been a follow up to The Weeknd’s successful track ‘Blinding Lights’.

With a revered songwriting team behind him, Tusse is definitely one to watch next year!

Julia Alfrida – “Rich”

Songwriters: Julia Alfrida, Jimmy Jansson, Melanie Wehbe

Julia Alfrida is a name we actually already knew would be competing but we now have her song title too – ‘Rich’! Julia secured her place at Melodifestivalen 2021 after winning the infamous competition P4 Nästa back in September with the song ‘Dark Doom’. You can check out the full article about the competition and her win here. Interestingly, a very well known team of songwriters have supported her in the writing of her entry so could she be the first P4 Nästa winner to advance to the finals?

Alvaro Estrella – “Baila Baila”

Songwriters: Anderz Wrethov, Linnea Deb, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt

Another familiar name, Alvaro Estrella is one of the last people to be confirmed this year! Similar to Anton Ewald, Alvaro begun his Melodifestivalen career by being a backing dancer including for Danny Sacuedo in 2012. Of Chilean-origin, he made his solo debut in 2014 with ‘Bedroom’ which unfortunately did not make it out of the first semi final that year. However, he had a more successful return to the contest earlier this year with a party duet with Mendez – ‘Vamos Amigos’ – which went on to place 11th in the final.

With the song title ‘Baila Baila’ it looks as if Alvaro will once again be bringing latin flair to the Mello stage.

Klara Hammarström – “Beat Of Broken Hearts”

Songwriters: David Kreuger, Fredrik Kempe, Niklas Carson Mattson, Andreas Wijk

Another returnee this time in the form of Klara Hammarström! Klara competed for the first time in 2020 with scandipop song ‘Nobody’ however was unlucky to compete within the incredibly strong second semi final where she placed 5th and left the competition. Despite this, she has gone on to release some fantastic new music including ‘Oh My Oh My’ and picked up lots more fans along the way. She first appeared on Swedish television on the reality TV show Familjen Hammarström which followed her family pursuits and she has also in the past been a professional horse rider. Refresh your mind on ‘Nobody’ below, one of our editors favourites of the year.

Eric Saade – “Every Minute”

Songwriters: Eric Saade, Linnea Deb, Joy Deb, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt

And last but not least… the final act participating at Melodifestivalen 2021 is Eric Saade! Any Mello or Eurovision fan will surely know of Eric, who successfully debuted with ‘Manboy’ back in 2010 placing third before coming back for the win a year later with ‘Popular’ which was a huge commercial hit across Europe – going on to place 3rd in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest which kicked off Sweden’s domination at the contest over the past decade. He competed once again in 2015 with ‘Sting’ but 10 years after his win he is back again with ‘Every Minute’ – a song that will surely be one of the favourites to win Melodifestivalen 2021. Relive his amazing performance in Dusseldorf 2011 below.

This finishes the full list of 28 participants at Melodifestivalen 2021. It definitely looks like a strong lineup! Continue to follow ESCBubble for all the latest Melodifestivalen content as we move in to National Final season very very soon!
