First semi-final of MGP 2021 to kick off on 16th of January!

It has been announced earlier that 26 songs are going to compete at Norwegian preselection for Eurovision Song Contest, Melodi Grand Prix 2021. Now it is time to reveal some other news regarding the show.
Hosts of the MGP 2021 are once again going to be: Kåre Magnus Bergh, Ingrid Gjessing Linhave and Ronny Brede Aase. The three of them describe the upcoming MGP season as a necessary celebration. In addition to that it is revealed that due to the pandemic, all live broadcasts will be without the audience.

The biggest news which will make the difference in the competition is the “wild card” which will be decided through broadcast on a Sunday before the final. All artists who did not advance from their semi-final, will get a second chance to receive a “wild card” for the final.

The names of the first artist competing at the MGP 2021 are going to be announced on Monday 11th of January while first of five semi-finals will be taking place on Saturday, 16th of January.

We are getting used to applause buttons and empty seats in the auditorium. Anyway, I think it’s going to be a party. We look forward to spread the joy and create a party during this terrible pandemic.

Last years voting system created a big voting scandal and once again a big involvement of the audience through their mobile phones is planned but they have developed backup plans for it.

We have made changes in the technical field, and the systems now take into account a larger volume of votes and engagement, the same system has been used through this autumn’s edition of “Stjernekamp” and the alternative Eurovision final in May. If the voting system does not work, two new backup solutions have been put in place. One is an SMS poll, and the other is an audience panel with 1000 people who have seen all the shows. These have been picked out by the analysis company Norstat.

Even though the winner of Melodi Grand Prix 2020 Ulrikke Brandstorp won’t take part in the contest as a participant it is expected that she appears in the show.
