Here is the first song of UMK 2021!

The first song of this year’s Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) has been released! You can listen to the song Lie by Oskr here:

Oskr, also known for his real name Oskari Ruohonen, is a singer-songwriter from Turku, Finland. During his career he’s been a member of the bands Yournalist and Traffic Island. During resent years Oskr has been focusing his solo career and made songs in Finnish. Oskr is a talented multi-instrumentalist, who has written, played and produced his songs both by himself and together with his brother Santeri.

Oskr comes from a musical family. His father Teppo Ruohonen and his uncle Matti Ruohonen form a legendary Finnish music duo Matti and Teppo, and they have done numerous hit songs during their long career. In 2017 Oskr told to the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat the following about his father and music: ”Dad always has some opinion. We disagree at times. It is funny that you can’t really escape music anywhere. We talk about it even in the Easter lunch.”

According to Yle, UMK has the honor of being the first step of the new phase of Oskr’s career. In UMK Oskr returns to his roots as an English language artist. Oskr tells that James Blake, Bon Iver and Jon Bellion have been his inspiration in his new music style.

Oskr tells that his song Lie is both small and big at the same time: ”Unluckily often happens so that in important situations you don’t have the courage to tell how you feel and you just tell what you think that the other one wants to hear instead. Regardless of the culture almost every human-being can relate to this in the song, and that is why the song is in the right place and company in Eurovision.”
