Spanish national final in February – the public to decide the song for Blas Cantó!

Blas Cantó was internally chosen by RTVE to represent Spain last year in the Eurovision Song Contest. Moments after the EBU have announced the cancellation of Eurovision 2020, RTVE was the first broadcaster to confirm Blas as their entrant for 2021 as well.

For this year’s Eurovision, RTVE and Blas Cantó decided to go in a slightly different way of the song selection. Last year’s entry “Universo” was internally chosen, while in 2021 the public will have the final say, and decide which song Blas will be singing in Eurovision 2021, which is to be held in Rotterdam. Blas is going to present two songs in a national final which is going to be held in February, and the public will choose which of those two will be the Spanish Eurovision song. Blas stated:

This year I have received a second chance. I want to listen to what the Eurovision fans have to say. I want the whole world to be with me and I want us all to support each other, because we all go to Eurovision together. The energy of Eurovision in Spain is contagious. I am going to present two completely different songs. These two are both songs that I can perfectly defend on stage.

The two songs have been selected by a collaboration of RTVE, Warner record label, Blas’s team and Blas himself. Voting in the national final will be possible either via phone calls, SMS, or for free by using Eurovision RTVE’s app, or voting on rtve.es. The two songs will be released soon, and the exact date of the national final is yet to be revealed.
