Samanta Tina Presents ‘The Moon Is Rising’

Latvia’s entry for Eurovision 2021 ‘The Moon Is Rising’ has premiered on Latvian Television this evening in the final episode of the mini-series ‘Ka Uzvaret Eirovizija (Samantas Tinas Cels Uz Roterdamu)’

Samanta’s participation in this year’s contest was confirmed back in May 2020. Samanta has competed in Latvian preselections on six occasions and won Supernova 2020 with her song ‘Still Breathing’, and whilst there was disappointment that the contest would not go ahead in 2020, Samanta was thrilled to be invited to return for 2021.

The series, whose title translates as ‘How To Win Eurovision (Samanta Tina’s Road To Rotterdam) had five episodes showcasing the different elements required for a Eurovision entry, and has dropped a number of hints for what to expect in tonight’s final unveiling of the song, and this is what we learned:

The song was written at a songwriting camp back in the autumn of 2020, and was chosen amongst a total of eleven options.  It was co-written by Samanta Tina, Aminata (Latvia 2015), and 20 year old Latvian producer SKVR (real name Oskar Uhans).  The message in the song is once again about female empowerment, with Samanta saying:

This song is about powerful and admirable women, about every single one of us. I invite women to not be afraid of ourselves and of being different. My song encourages women to make a crown with their own hands and put it on the head to be the ruler of her life. To love and believe in ourselves. Then we will be loved by the people around us. I believe that your attitude towards yourself changes the way people treat you, but it is not enough. And for this reason, the most important line in my song is: if you have something to say, say it to my face. Let’s accept and love ourselves, let’s be proud of what God has given us, let’s accept our differences and stand for equality!”

The video was directed and produced by Samanta herself, in collaboration with Aiga Baikova (AiProduction).  The man behind the camera was Ritvars Bluka and he took on a challenge to film it all on Samanta’s Samsung Galaxy S21, and the whole team were pleasantly surprised with the outcome and are proud to now share it  with Samanta’s fans all over Europe.

Fantastic!!! That song, her voice, the staging and performances were awesome. To have a music video this great makes me think her stage presence will be stellar in Rotterdam!
