According to Eurofestivales we won’t be seeing the return of Belgian broadcaster VRT at Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021. They were not the only ones who gave the negative answer about their participation as Czech broadcaster said the same.
After Eurofestivales contacted Flemish broadcaster VRT, Birgit Simal has confirmed that they will not participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021. That doesn’t mean we could fully write off Belgium as it’s up to Walloon broadcaster RTBF to make the final decision about their participation at the show. They previously withdrew from Junior Eurovision in 2007 due to a lack of interest for it in Wallonia. Since then VRT was in charge of selecting the Belgian entries for the contest, the last participation of theirs was in 2012.
Belgium hosted Junior Eurovision 2005 in Hasselt even though the country never managed to win the show. Their best result at the contest was fourth place in 2009 with the song “Zo verliefd” by Laura Omloop, who got 113 points. You can check the performance below
On behalf of Czech television (ČT), Jan Maxa has confirmed to Eurofestivales that the Czech Republic will not be making their debut at this years Junior Eurovision. Their main focus remains at the Eurovision Song Contest.
