‘The Power of Water’ will be the interval act for semi-final 1 of Eurovision 2021!

True to Dutch nature, we’re getting a water-inspired interval act during the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021! 💦

‘The Power of Water’ is the name of this act that explores the tight and complicater relationship the Dutch have always had with water.
Head of Show Gerben Bakker explains:

For centuries we Dutch have had a relationship with water that is unique in the world. We fought against it, but we can’t live without it. In the act we tell the story of the power of the water and the resilience that we all have.

Famous Dutch actress Thekla Reuten will symbolise that power of water accompanied by a musical piece composed by hugely popular rising star Davina Michelle and her team.

Davina elaborates:

Almost two years ago I was approached by the Eurovision team with the concept in which the story of water is central. Water connects, is resilient and is an inseparable part of the Netherlands. Together with Eurovision we have worked on a unique act in which these characteristics are central. I wrote the song ‘Sweet Water’ in which water is used as a metaphor for something that connects people in the world. We are all different and live in different environments, but we all need water and it brings us all together. I can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on together for so long.

The act promises to be a treat for the eyes with both recordings of the Delta Works (an elaborate defence system the Dutch have built against the water) and a wondrous world of water through augmented reality in the Ahoy venue itself!

While we have that to look forward to, let’s listen to Davina’s latest single ‘Nobody Is Perfect’:

We will be able to witness ‘The Power of Water’ during the first semi-final on Tuesday the 18th of May!
