Chris Martin asks fans to stream ‘Embers’ as song reaches UK Top 40 in midweek charts

Chris Martin has asked his fans online to stream James Newman’s Eurovision song for the UK ‘Embers’, as the song becomes the first UK Eurovision song to reach the UK Top 40 midweek chart since 2014.

The frontman of the UK band Coldplay shared a list of things that he found useful, and said about James:

I enjoyed watching Eurovision. In solidarity with those who enable victory by being defeated, please consider streaming “embers” by James Newman, who was so graceful about it all.

The tweet has received over 200,000 likes at the time of writing and almost 75,000 retweets.

Although James didn’t receive any points this year, the song has climbed to the top of the UK iTunes charts as fans attempt to get the song trending. Embers also reached number 36 in the midweek charts yesterday (Wednesday). If the song charts in the same place or higher tomorrow, it would be the highest placed UK Eurovision song since the UK’s 2014 Eurovision song ‘Children of the Universe’ by Molly.
