First Rehearsal

The Greek delegation have bigged this up quite substantially over the past few weeks but I think after watching that twice they may have been right to do so! Firstly, she is wearing a sparkly purple catsuit – which looks a little like a superhero costume – with big silver high boots. The sparkles on the light look insane without being overbearing.

The colour scheme is very purple with mostly blacks and whites as the other big colours. She starts on stage alone, however there are two dancers that join her by the first chorus. At first I thought they were holograms but actualy it looks like they are just ‘invisible’ – wearing morphsuit-like outfits which make them invisible except for their white outfits. The interaction and dancing she has with them looks fantastic and I’m super impressed with her confidence & mobility.

There’s a Sergey 2016 moment as she scales a wall at the back, together with 4 dancers this time, before the second chorus is sung in a way that makes her look suspended in mid air. She then jumps to the ground in time for the middle 8 with lots of close camera angles to focus in on her. In the time between then and the final chorus, they get rid of the wall behind her and she’s joined by all 4 dancers who are now fully visible to finish with a great dance routine  as the backdrop flies through a dark city, with all lights in purple. All in all – very effective & a wow moment!

Before Eurovision

Stefania started her Eurovision journey a few years ago now, representing The Netherlands in the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest as part of girl group Kisses – singing the song “Kisses and Dancin'”. Unfortunately the trio did not go on to win the contest, however that wasn’t enough for Stefania who was then internally selected by Greek broadcaster ERT last year to compete with the junior-friendly “Superg!rl”.

Following the 2020 cancellation, ERT confirmed that Stefania would be invited back to compete again in 2021, once again working with prestigious Greek songwriter Dimitris Kontopoulos on a song that wouldn’t be out of place on Dua Lipa’s latest album – “Last Dance”. The song is a lot more grown up than last year and there has been a lot of hype about Stefania’s unique but potentially dangerous staging. Whilst you wait for the full video in the show, you’ll have to make do with the above summary but also you can watch the stunning music video here:
