First Rehearsal

Vocally these girls are on point! Their harmonies work, it has the right level of backing to give some flexibility on vocals without drowning them out which is what we’ve seen from some other performers. The choreography is slick and tight and the girls have a lot of chemistry together. They are all dressed in black dresses, with Sanja’s hair looking beautiful all in curls!

The colour scheme and LED backdrops are perhaps the more surprising options. The majority of the performance is limited to a white & black colour scheme which causes problems with the stage which is noticeably dark and feels a little empty. Too many far and wide shots which I hope they look at fixing in time for the semi final.  The backdrop gets better further in to it, with reds and other brighter colours which help to sell it a little. I’m hoping future runs will show off pyro and other effects because at the moment it’s just missing some spice. And I say that as somebody who probably has this in my overall top three!

The final run of rehearsals felt a lot cleaner. Camera angles from before were fixed, we had both pyro explosions and smoke machines. The end looked a lot more of a showstopper which is exactly what his needs following a potential winner in Iceland. I’m feeling very relieved!

Before Eurovision

Girl group Hurricane, consisting of Sanja Vučić (represented Serbia at Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm), Ksenija Knežević (daughter of Knez who represented Montenegro at Eurovision 2015 in Vienna) and Ivana Nikolić. Last year they entered and went on to win Serbian national selection Beovizija with “Hasta la Vista”. The pop/R&B trio have been specialising in tropical, latin themed pop songs and picked up quite a fan following across the Balkans and Southern Europe with their beats.

For fans of Hurricane, they were very happy when Serbian broadcaster RTS confirmed that the trio would be back for 2021. Keeping up the trend of using Spanish language terms as their song titles… they have packed a punch with a dance number called “Loco Loco” – and to make it more Eurovision friendly they’ve even chucked in a key change!
