This is our prediction on the 10 qualifiers from Semi Final 1!

After two long years, the Eurovision Song Contest is finally back with tonight’s first semi final of the 65th edition in Rotterdam. 16 countries will participate in tonight’s semi final and fight for the 10 desired places in the grand final. While everyone is speculating on who will qualify to the final, 10 members of the ESCBubble Team dared to predict tonight’s outcome.

After seeing all the rehearsals and the jury semi final, these are the predictions of our team members:

As you can see, all of our team members are convinced that Lithuania, Russia, Cyprus, Ukraine and Malta will qualify to the grand final tonight. Norway is close behind them with 9 out of 10 votes and Sweden follows with 8 out of 10. Croatia was named as a finalist by 7 of our team members, Israel and Belgium follow with 6 votes each.

Therefore, the 10 qualifiers of the ESCBubble Team are:

Romania would closely miss the final with 5 out of 10 votes and Azerbaijan follows with the support of 4 team members.

However things look slightly different with our reader’s predictions. Right at this moment we received 5483 votes on our poll for semi final 1 and these are the results:

  3. Ukraine – 681 votes
  4. Malta – 567 votes
  5. Russia – 529 votes
  6. Romania – 362 votes
  7. Belgium – 344 votes

This means that the ESCBubble readers and the team agree on 9 out of 10 finalists. However, the poll voters see Romania in the final and Israel just misses the top 10 here.

I was first introduced to the Eurovision Song Contest at the age of 9, when that "Love Oh Love" song was a big hit in Austria. After watching my first contest, I was absolutely mesmerized by that beautiful event. I re-watched it a million times, started to look up older contests and within a few months I knew pretty much all the songs that ever participated.
Also, I'm probably the only Eurovision fan ever, whose favorite entry is Saskia and Serge's "Tijd" from 1971.
