Albina receives a Porin for the best new artist!

Last night the Porin award ceremony took place for the 28th time. Porin is the award  founded by Croatian Phonographic Association, Croatian Musicians Union, Croatian Radiotelevision and Croatian Composers’ Society and it is given to the best Croatian musicians, many of the singers, producers as well as conductor who took part at Eurovision Song Contest were among the laureates of the award so far and that wasn’t an exception last night. The winner of Dora 2021 and Croatian representative at Eurovision 2021, Albina was awarded in the category for the best new artist.

The nominated artists in the category were: Mia Negovetić (Dora 2020, 2021), Vinko Ćemeraš & Talvi Tuuli and Albina. The winner was announced by last years recipient of Porin for the lifetime achievement in the Croatian music industry, the music diva and singer, Josipa Lisac who also took part at Yugoslavian national selection for Eurovision, Jugovizija in 1969, 1970, when she ended as runner up with “Još te čekam” and in 1987 when the song “Gdje Dunav ljubi nebo” ended on 9th place. I wasn’t expecting this and I haven’t prepared anything to say“, were Albina’s  first words after she got the award but then she added, “I would like to dedicate this award to all the kids who were there in front waiting for me to arrive from the early morning and I can’t believe that someone like 22 years old me could be a role model to all of those youngsters who are so genuine and honest and that’s the biggest honour for me so thank you all so much“.

Porin for the best song went to “Mali krug velikih ljudi“, with music and lyrics by Ivan Dečak, while the song was performed by the two times runner up of Jugovizija, Massimo Savić. He competed at the Yugoslavian national selection in 1987 with “Samo jedan dan” and 1989 with “Plavi andjeo” when he lost by one point from the winners of Eurovision, Riva.

Winner of the award for the best female vocal performance was Vanna (Croatia 2001) for “Puna memorija“. The Porin for the lifetime achievement went to the Croatian jazz, blues & funk singer and a music diva, Zdenka Kovačiček who competed at (Dora 2001, 2002 & 2020, as well as Jugovizija 1961) and it was posthumously awarded to Krunoslav Kićo Slabinac (Yugoslavia 1971).

Albina performed “Tick-Tock” at Eurovision 2021 and even though being a qualifier from both judges and the televote when the points combined Croatia ended on 11th place in the first semi-final just 5 points behind Norway. You can check out her performance below
