Once one of the countries that never missed a final appearance in the Eurovision Song Contest, the Romanian fortunes have recently turned a bit. In 2018 they didn’t reach the final for the first time, a fate they faced again in 2019 and the latest edition of 2021.

Broadcaster TVR are now bringing a show to TV to discuss the following debate topics:

• “Why don’t Romania’s great voices participate in Eurovision?”
• “Why has the interest of Romanians towards Eurovision decreased so much?”
• “What are the solutions to remedy the situation?”

Among the guests we’ll see: Horia Moculescu, Alin Dincă – soloist Trooper (Rock FM), Dan Manoliu, Dani Constantin – music director, Mugurel Vrabete (Holograph), Alexandru Urucu (Eurovision fan), Nicola, Andrei Partoş, Andrei Tudor and Elena Cârstea (who will be joining via Skype).
We’ll also see performances by know Eurovision faces The Humans, Paula Seling and Ovi!
Important to note is that viewers themselves can take part in the discussion as well by calling in!

The host of the show and former Head of Delegation herself, Marina Almăşan, had the following to share:

It has been 11 years since I was at the helm of one of the most successful Eurovision editions. In 2010, my wonderful Paula and Ovi brought Romania a deserved third place in the Grand Final in Oslo, the artists outperforming Luminiţa Anghel.

I was, at that time, the head of the Romanian delegation, and my team was at the buttons, in all this preparatory work – internal and external. Of course, without the two extraordinary voices, without the 10/10 song, without the charisma of the two talented artists, we wouldn’t have gotten here. They were, therefore, years in which the Romanian Television (through other valuable colleagues of mine) left a very good impression, in the European competition.

Then, all of a sudden, … the spell was broken. And the last years have brought enough worry and sorrow on the faces of the Romanians following Eurovision. On Monday, July 5, TVR wants to finally put its finger on the sore spot: to find the weak points (but also the strong ones, because they also exist) of our participation in Eurovision, to propose solutions to remedy the situation and wash away shame .

I will moderate a heated debate, on the evening of July 5, on TVR 1, with chosen and skilled guests and even if it comes out with sparks flying, it is important that things go smoothly. And at the next edition, Romania should reach the top 10! … if, after the discussions, it will not turn out like that, maybe, it is healthier to stay on the sidelines for a year or two … The dialogue will be LIVE, which for me – a live person – will mean a return to the good times! I thank the Romanian Television for entrusting this event to my team and … I hope we will not disappoint!

The show, ‘Eurovision, pe şleau!’ will be broadcast on Monday, July 5, at 21:00, on TVR 1. And Marina Almăşan herself will be the host.
