Talking to Turkey: a possible return to Eurovision?

Rumours are growing stronger during the last few days on the fate of Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest.
The nation debuted in the contest in 1975, reached first place in 2003 with Sertab Erener’s ‘Everyway That I Can’ and, after a very succesful run with many top 10-placings, withdrew completely after the 2012 edition in Baku, Azerbaijan!

But now  İbrahim Eren, Chairman and Director General at national broadcaster TRT has fuelled those rumours by commenting on a possible return of Turkey to the contest!
Today the EBU commented on it by saying the following:

Although the EBU’s Turkish Member TRT hasn’t participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2012 we know there is still huge interest in Turkey in the Contest underlined by the large amount of engagement on our social channels from Turkish fans.

With that in mind, we are in contact with TRT with the aim of bringing them back into the competition.

TRT has made a huge contribution to the Contest in the past, including hosting the event in Istanbul in 2004, and we would very much welcome them back should they decide to participate again.

Let’s hope they return and remember the only Turkish winner so far:

Do you think a Turkish comeback is on the cards?
