Italy won’t be taking part at Junior Eurovision 2021!

On behalf of the Italian broadcaster RAI the person in charge of of children’s content and TV channels Rai Yoyo, Rai Gulp and VOD service RAI Play, Luca Milano has revealed to Eurofestivales that Italy will not be taking part at  Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021.

At the end of 2020, RAI hoped to reunite their delegation for Junior Eurovision 2021 but that won’t be happening. Luca Milano hasn’t stated the reason behind the broadcasters decision not to take part at the contest, but as it’s known RAI is getting ready to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 so maybe there could be found the reason behind them not returning to the Junior edition of the show.

Italy made their debut at Junior Eurovision  Song Contest 2014 when their entry “Tu primo grande amore” by Vincenzo Cantiello managed to win the show. Even though they won the JESC 2014 Italian broadcaster RAI refused to host the show the year after so Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 had two countries biding to host the show Bulgaria and Malta and then it was decided that the host country of the JESC 2015 is going to be Bulgaria. Italy participated five more times after their debut and their second best result came at Junior Eurovision 2016 with “Cara Mamma (Dear Mom)” by Fiamma Boccia who ended the contest on 3rd place with 209 points. Last appearance of Italy at Junior Eurovision took place in 2019 when they were represented by Marta Viola who sang “La Voce Della Terra” and she reached the seventh place with 129 points.
