The press department of the Romanian broadcaster, TVR, has revealed to Eurofestivales that Romania won’t be taking part at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
Romania debuted at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in it’s inaugural season back in 2003 and their best placement at the contest came the year after when they ended at 4th place with 123 points, represented by Noni Răzvan Ene with the song “Îți mulțumesc”.
In 2005, Romania had another top 5 finish at the contest when “Țurai” by Alina Eremia ended the show on 5th place with 89 points. Despite not winning the contest Romania hosted the Junior Eurovision 2006 at Sala Polivalentă in Bucharest. After seven consecutive years of participation Romania withdrew from Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2010.
The countries which confirmed their participation at Junior Eurovision 2021 so far are Ukraine, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Russia, Ireland ,Georgia. Poland and Portugal who has also selected their entrant for the contest.Albania is expected to make their decision soon while broadcasters from Lithuania, San Marino, Slovakia, Moldova, Austria, Estonia, Latvia, Denmark, Iceland, Bulgaria, Norway, Finland, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, Wales, Czech Republic as well as Belgian broadcasters VRT and RTBF confirmed they won’t be taking part at the show. The contest will take place on 19th of December in Paris .
