In the past couple of weeks rumours were going around about Hungary’s potential return to the Eurovision Song Contest. A couple of paragraphs from “the rulebook of A Dal 2022” were circulating online, where this was mentioned, alongside with Turin as the host city, but with the wrong dates. Now the official rulebook of A Dal 2022 has been published, and there is no mention of Eurovision whatsoever.

A Dal 2022 will once again allow entries released from the 30th of March 2021, as well as bands with up to 10 members, both of which are already against the standard Eurovision rules. This means that the 11th edition of A Dal will once again not be used as Hungary’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.

The finalists of A Dal 2022 will once again receive money prizes, which is the case ever since Hungary withdrew from the Contest. With the amount of the prizes for the winner and the other finalists (approximately 150,000 EUR), it’s safe to assume that Hungary will sit out the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest as well.

Hungary last competed in 2019 in Tel Aviv, when Joci Pápai represented his country for the second time, with the song “Az én apám”, and failed to qualify for the Grand Final. Since Hungary’s return in 2011, the best result was 5th place back in 2014 when András Kállay Saunders represented his country with the song “Running”.
