Ireland completes line-up for JESC 2021 national semifinal

TG4 has just aired the fourth heat of this year’s Irish national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Eight candidates competed for one of the tickets to the semifinal show which will be broadcast next week. Julie Cole and Maiú Levi Lawlor have gone through today’s show completing the line-up for the 2021 Irish semifinal!

These are the seven entrants that performed at today’s show:

  • Julie Cole (1st)
  • Kate Skelton
  • Maiú Levi Lawlor (2nd)
  • Victoria Foster
  • Ruby Maher (3rd)
  • Neala Graham
  • Katie Coyle

Today’s qualifiers were decided by a professional jury panel, made up of Niamh Ní Chróinín, Fiachna Ó Braonáin and this week’s guest judge Mickey Joe Harte, who represented Ireland at Eurovision 2003. The experts rated the performances from 0 to 10 stars and the top candidate automatically qualified for the semi-final. Then, a sing-off between the second and third decided the second qualifier after a new voting procedure that included ‘Yes’ and ‘No’.

Next week, the Irish national selection will come closer to the final as the second last show will be broadcast with eight semifinalists competing to represent their country in Paris, France. You can find the lineup for the semi-final below:

  • Sophie Lennon
  • Alison McGrath
  • Shannon Copeland
  • Cora Harkin
  • Lilyella Buckley
  • Eva Norton
  • Julie Cole
  • Maiú Levi Lawlor

Ireland is back to Junior Eurovision after a year of absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic and will select its representative from their traditional national selection. As in previous editions, all the shows, including the final, were recorded earlier this year and are being broadcast pre-recorded. That means the winner is already selected and working on the song and performance for Paris 2021.
