Supernova is back for 2022!

Latvian broadcaster LTV have this morning confirmed details of their selection process for Eurovision 2022, and Supernova is back!

After Samanta Tina was chosen internally for 2021 with “Moon Is Rising” there were concerns among the fans that LTV may stay with internal selections, but this morning the official website has confirmed that the selection process is now open.

From October 7th to December 7th, LTV are accepting selections here and the rules are stipulating that the performers, writers and producers must be over 16. From the performers, writers and authors of the submission, the split of persons from outside of Latvia can be no more than 33%.  LTV are arranging a jury to select the submissions that will progress through to the Supernova 2022 contest, which will be held in February 2022.  Those chosen will be announced sometime in December 2021. Full details of how the selection process will work is to be published in January 2022.

There is also an interesting line in the rules which states that LTV reserves the right to invite performers and authors to participate in Supernova 2022. Read the full rules here.

Director of LTV Programs Department, Jana Semjonova, has said “Our main goal is to find the best song to perform at the grand final of the eurovision Song Contest in May 2022 in Italy. We are looking forward to the new performers and songwriters who still want to break into the Latvian popular music industry, as well as to the songs of already experienced and popular writers.”

Supernova was last broadcast in 2020, with the winner being Samanta Tina with her song “Still Breathing”.
