In June we informed you about the return of Het Grote Songfestivalfeest, but it seems like the return will need to a bit given the fact that Dutch authorities introduced a nighttime lockdown to fight Covid 19 pandemic.
The amount of registered cases of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in The Netherlands rapidly increased. That lead to overload of Dutch health system. Despite The Netherlands having a 72% of fully vaccinated citizens, an average number of 47 patients is daily being admitted to intensive care, according to Dutch agency for disease control and prevention (RIVM).
Dutch authorities already implemented a minor lockdown, but the current situation made them decide on stricter measures which are tough for the event industry. Concerts and theatre plays are allowed to be organised but a large scale events such as Het Grote Songfestivalfeest maybe very hard to follow the new measures. As the Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte announced non-essential stores would be closed from 17.00 to 5.00. Het Grote Songfestivalfeest was planned to take place on 9th of December starting at 20.00 from Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. The organizers of the festival posted the following announcement on the social media
In the upcoming days the audience will be informed about the adjustments and planned solution by the organizers of the festival but given the circumstances Het Grote Songfestivalfeest will either:
1) be organised in a way that it follows the measures by the government which are to be finished by the 17.00 and provide safe seating for the audience;
2) be postponed to a later date;
3) be cancelled
The organizers maybe find a chance to adjust the realization of the festival in another form but as it’s already written for further information and their final decision we need to wait as it will happen in the upcoming days. The last time Het Grote Songfestivalfeest took place was back in 2019.
