Georgia’s first rehearsal at Junior Eurovision 2021

So, onto the sixth rehearsal of the day, the halfway point of today’s afternoon session. From the sublime glam rock of Italy, to the completely different, yet just as sublime, live lounge crooning from Niko Kajaia of Georgia, with Let’s Count The Smiles.

I think we’re going to be smiling all the way to the end with this one.

He’s joined on-stage by two female dancers, providing a bold primary colour spectrum between the three. It was always going to be a fun, colourful performance, and the projections show exactly that, with the swirly art deco-esque patterns from their outfits accompanying that aesthetic.

The lyrics and notes themselves are simple, but Niko does a convincing job conveying them, his clasically-trained vocals coming in handy.

And the dancing. There’s a lot of it. Including from Niko himself. He might just be the most charismatic and engaging performer JESC has seen in a long time, and the whole thing screams Georgian fun.

Finally, it would be remiss of me not to say Niko’s wardrobe has consistently been the best of the year, and I need to extend my gratitudes on behalf of the fanbase to whoever picked out those fabulous trousers! I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: if I ever have kids, I hope they’d always dress and dance like Niko and his friends!
