Kazakhstan’s first rehearsal at Junior Eurovision 2021

We’re back from our lunch break at La Seine Musicale, and it’s time for Kazakhstan to take the stage. It’s the only all-male group of 2021, new friends Alinur and Beknur, with Ертегі әлемі.

I’m not going to give too much away here, because there is an element of surprise to this one. Showing rather than telling is key sometimes.

What I will say is the outfits are similar to the silver-plated space suit Alinur wore in the national final, but gone are is the Ming the Merciless-esque collar and in its place is a knight’s templar-style shoulder pad, which Beknur also has in a slightly adapted form.

Alinur’s voice is virtually note-perfect, with so much feeling in his timbre, and Beknur adds a little treat for the host nation audience with his French rap. Their ability to riff off each other is very good as well.

Kazakhstan demonstrates every year on-stage why they deserve to be at JESC (and also ESC, but that’s just me), and this is setting up to be yet another iconic, fantastical performance.
