We continue the first morning of rehearsals at La Seine Musicale with Malta. We’ve already seen Portugal and Ireland, now it’s time to see our first duo: Ike and Kaya, who are singing My Home.
As expected, this one comes across as very heartfelt and sweet. Kaya starts the performance on a swinging garden chair covered with colourful creeping plants, and the projections give the feeling of a summer evening in a well-kept Maltese garden.
Ike joins her halfway through the performance with his middle-eight, and both join in that climactic final chorus, during which the screen splits to reflect their personalities. The performance ends with the words “MY HOME” projected on the screen.
Kaya’s vocals are on-point, and Ike’s on-stage enthusiasm is infectious. I think we’ll be feeling the love on Sunday, and will maybe have us seeking out hanging egg chairs next time we’re in IKEA (which is Ike with an A – coincidence?)
