Armando Gama (Portugal 1983) passed away at the age of 67!

Armando Gama represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 1983 in Munich. He passed away today, January 17th 2022, at the age of 67. According to his family, he had suffered from cancer for a long time.

Armando was born and grew up in Angola, where he studied music and piano. He moved to Portugal at the age of 17 and in 1983, he participated at Festival da Canção with the song “Esta Balada Que Te Dou”. He won the contest and was therefore selected to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest that year.

In Munich, Armando finished in 13th place with “Esta Balada Que Te Dou”. You can watch his Eurovision performance here:

“Esta Balada Que Tu Dou” was a very big hit in Portugal and beyond, with 80,000 sold records. Even the president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, expressed his grief and condolences.

We are very sad to report this news and our hearts are with Armando’s friends & family. May he rest in peace!
