Azerbaijan reveals plans to participate at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022!

After Armenia won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with “Qami Qami” by Maléna, it took the EBU only a few days to confirm that the next edition of JESC will be held in Armenia.

Besides wondering, when and where the contest will take place, fans have had another big question on their minds ever since: Will Azerbaijan participate next year?

These questions were of course brought up due to the strained political relationship between the two countries. In 2012, when the Eurovision Song Contest was held in Baku, Armenia withdrew from the contest in Azerbaijan due to political tension. Armenia was also unable to participate at the Junior ESC 2020 and the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, because of the war in the country.

But now Eldar Rasulov, who is a member of the Azeri broadcaster İTV and Azerbaijan’s JESC 2021 delegation, expressed his wish that Azerbaijan will participate at the upcoming Junior Eurovision in Armenia.

“No matter where the contest takes place, we have to participate and work for a better result.”

So far, Azerbaijan participated four times at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, and Sona Azizova just gave them their best result of all time. She finished in a glorious 5th place in December 2021 with the song “One Of Those Days”.
