Don’t ‘Panik’: Cyprus’ Plans Are Underway!
The editor-in-chief of TV Mania Magazine, Konstantinos Hampalis, appeared on Alpha Cyprus’ noon show With Love Christinana and made some announcements about the Cypriot internal selection for Eurovision 2022.
Cypriot broadcaster RIK is a bit behind where they usually are in terms of internally selecting their artists. Eleni Foureira was announced in January 2018, Tamta was revealed in December 2018, and Elena Tsagrinou was declared Cyprus’ artist in November 2020.
Hampalis made clear that this year, they are looking for the song first, and then will find an appropriate singer. So far, the Cyprus Radio foundation has not chosen a song, however there is at least one that has caught their attention.
Once the song has been chosen, the talent pool for finding the artist will be limited to one who is attached to the record company Panik Records, the label that sent Elena in 2018, Tamta in 2019, and Elena in 2021. RIK is not set on sending a famous singer however, and is considering sending a new talent with an upbeat dance song.
Cyprus last held a national final in 2015, and has gone with internal selections since 2016, but this could soon change. Hampalis indicated that RIK plans on hosting a new talent show for 2023 to allow anyone to participate and win the Cypriot ticket to Eurovision 2023.

Cyprus has taken part in Eurovision every year since 1981, with the exception of 2001 when they missed due to being relegated after the 2000 Contest. Their best result came in 2018 when Eleni Foureira came 2nd with the fan-favourite “Fuego”. Are you pleased with Cyprus’ plans to continue with Panik Records for another year?
