Here the sixth song of UMK 2022!

The sixth song of this year’s Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) has been released. Listen to the song Elämä kantaa mua (Life carries me) by Tommi Läntinen here:

Tommi Läntinen is a Finnish singer-songwriter, whose career started in 1979, when he became the vocalist of the rock band Fabrics. After Fabrics he was a member of bands Rin Tin Tin and Boycott, and in his band years his singing language was English. In 1994 Läntinen became a solo artist and he changed his singing language to Finnish. After that he has released 7 solo studio albums and 4 compilation albums. The biggest hits of Läntinen are Via Dolorosa, Kevät ja minä (Spring and me) and Syvälle sydämeen sattuu (Hurts deep to the heart), which is a song about school bullying. Läntinen also participated in Finnish national selection for Eurovision in 2005 with the song Mitä vaan (Whatever).

According to Yle, Tommi Läntinen has had a long quiet period in his career, since it’s been over 10 years since he released an album of new music. This quiet period is now over, and new album of Tommi Läntinen will be released in February. The album is named after his UMK entry Elämä kantaa mua.

The members of a popular Finnish band Haloo Helsinki! have written Läntinen’s UMK entry. Composers of the song are Leo Hakanen and Jere Marttila, the lyrics are written by Elli Haloo. Elämä kantaa mua is the first song Haloo Helsinki! has written to an other artist. The song is a mixture of old-school and next-gen rock, which is complemented by Läntinen’s raspy voice.

According to Yle, Läntinen’s UMK song tells about change and the courage it takes to make that change, regardless of whether the change involves a personal relationship, work or any big decision in life. It’s that moment when there’s no use of looking back, since “there’s nothing to go back to”. Elämä kantaa mua feels very current to Läntinen right now:

Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and make that leap, simply having faith that it will all work out. In many cases it does, when you just let go of the past and surrender to the future.
