Loreen Tops ESC250 For The 10th Time!

It may not be a huge surprise to anyone in the Eurovision bubble that Loreen’s 2012 smash hit Euphoria has topped the annual songfestival.be fan vote now for ten consecutive years! Many fans had been speculating online that Måneskin’s Zitti e buoni might have been able to knock Loreen off the top spot, however the Italian band finished in second place. While the full detailed results are not yet available, in the 2020 vote, Loreen scored 9,475 points from fans, whereas runner-up Eleni Foureira’s Fuego (2018) got 6,163 points – a difference of a whopping 3,312 points!

While we wait for the detailed results, songfestival.be has given fans some interesting statistics about this year’s results.

On the one hand, the biggest gainer from 2020 to 2021 was The Netherlands’ 1977 entry De mallemolen by Heddy Lester. Incredibly, this song sat in 1,100th place in 2020 and rose 867 places to 233rd in 2021!

On the other hand, Azerbaijan’s 2020 entry Cleopatra by Efendi suffered the biggest drop. After 75th place last year, Cleopatra finished 2021 down in 232nd place (just above De mallemolen!), a drop of 157 places. Efendi shouldn’t feel too bad though, her 2021 song Mata Hara got 73rd spot on the list, two places better than Cleopatra the year before!

Songfestival.be also smashed their record for the most votes ever, as 8,594 fans from around the world submitted their top songs to the online website, meaning 498,452 points were up for grabs this year! Most of those points went to songs from Sweden, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Ukraine, France, Germany, and Serbia. Head over to our Instagram where we will be playing with the numbers as they get released.
