Eurofestival News in Italy are reporting today the first indications of what the stage will look like, due to be built in the Pala Olimpico Arena in Turin. The stage will be needed, of course, for the two Semi Finals on 10th and 12th May, the Grand Final on 14th May, and a myriad of rehearsals and jury shows as well!
Construction work will begin on 21st March and end on 11th April. Disassembly will begin the morning after the Grand Final, thus on 15th May and last a full two weeks, ending on 30th May. This means the Pala Olimpico will be used by Eurovision from 21st March until 15th May – a total of 70 days! This also means that a couple of previously scheduled concerts will have to be moved.
Sources close to RAI, the host broadcaster, say the stage will be made of 7 concentric platforms with linear sliding capabilities of 180ยบ in both directions, which will carry a central wall and 6 concentric arches of a diameter of 19 meters and a height of 9.5 meters!
The structures and motors to move the stage, the lighting mounts, the drawbridges, and the support for the LED walls will be accommodated in a constriction area made of metal with a size of 630 square meters and 2 meters high, which still needs to be built.
The stage, according to what emerges, will also be composed ofย four portions of the floor measuring approximately 180 ร 60 meters, which will rotate, to facilitate the use of the scenographic elements. The Eurovision stage traditionally has two entrances and these too will have to be specially made (two will be motorized and two will be operated manually – both also need to be built).
Then there will also be two components elevated from the floor that will be designed with a walkable space made of glass with an underlying surface that will accommodate visual elements.
