Production of MGP 2022 approaches a critical situation!

The third semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 takes place tonight and it is the second week in a row that we won’t be having the full team of hosts as Kåre Magnus Bergh got diagnosed with Covid-19 as well as the other members of MGP production team. Last week  Annika Momrak was prevented to physically host the second semi-final last Saturday and she joined in hosting for a bit, online. As Norwegian newspaper, VG reports the hosts of the night will be Annika Momrak and Mikkel Niva. As VG further reveals, several members of the production must have also been tested positive.

We are approaching a critical situation. We work intensely behind the scenes to keep production afloat, and solve everything we have so that we reach our goal

Stig Karlsen (Project manager of MGP and Head of Norwegian) for NRK

The duels for Semi-final 3 of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 are as follows:

VILDE – “Titans”  vs. Sturla – “Skår i hjerte”
Mari Bølla – “Your Loss” vs. Oda Gondrosen – “Hammer of Thor”

It’s good to note that this won’t be first face off between Mari and Oda as both of them competed in the final of Idol 2020 which was won by Mari and Oda ended on third place.

The format of the show remains the same as in the previous years the winner of each duel will advance to the gold duel furthermore the winner of the gold duel gets the ticket for the Grand Finale scheduled for 19th of February. As previously mentioned one of the entries by the direct finalists will be performed live for the first time. This Saturday we should’ve heard, Subwoolfer but given the fact they got tested positive to Covid, NorthKid jumped in as their replacement and they will be performing “Someone”.

It’s not lost for the acts who don’t win the semi-final as the remaining three will be competing for the last place in the final through a second chance round which is set for the 12th of February. The second chance round will look a bit different this year as first it will feature a show on Monday 7th of February with all 12 non qualifiers and then out of them the 4 with the most votes will advance to the second chance round where they will face off in duels. You can read our interviews with VILDE, Mari Bølla and Oda Gondrosen.

We hope that everyone diagnosed with Covid 19 will soon get better and face the disease without any consequences and that production of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 will manage to go in full swing.
