Sanremo makes decision on Gianni Morandi

Italian Broadcaster RAI have announced that Gianni Morandi will still be able to take part in this year’s Sanremo.

As we announced on Monday, Gianni accidentally published his song on Facebook yesterday, leading to reports that he could be disqualified.

The video remained online for around 15 minutes before being removed from his Facebook page. According to the rules of Sanremo 2022, songs cannot be released ahead of their performance in the contest, and if they release the song early, it can result in the song being disqualified.

RAI released a statement saying:

Regarding the involuntary dissemination of the piece by Gianni Morandi, competing at the 72nd Sanremo Song Festival, the Artistic Direction in agreement with Rai1 does not believe it should exclude the aforementioned song because it was a pure technical problem, due to the need for Morandi to wear a brace on his right hand which has undergone several operations following the accident that occurred a few months ago.

The impediment to the movement of the hand caused the error for which Morandi put on the net the behind-the-scenes work he was seeing privately.

Morandi never resorted to social media managers to manage his Facebook profile and therefore committed the aforementioned technical error. The song and the artist Morandi, therefore, remain in the competition.

The 2022 Sanremo Festival is due to take place from the 1st to 5th February.
