Eurofestival News out of Italy are reporting that RAI‘s teams have begun filming for the postcards – those segments in between songs during the live shows. The clips have historically showcased either the host country, the artists themselves, or a mixture of both. With a country as beautiful as Italy, RAI will have no shortage of locations to choose from. With 20 regions in Italy and 41 participating countries at Eurovision 2022, we can expect each region to be shown at least once!

For now, RAI have been filming around Umbria. Umbria is a landlocked region of Italy, nestled between Lazio, Tuscany, and Le Marche, with San Marino just to its north. Umbria is split into two provinces: the larger Perugia and its smaller sister Terni. Both provinces will be used it the making of the postcards.

In the city of Perugia, filming has taken place in the historic center in Piazza IV Novembre (where the historic fountain is located), Corso Vannucci, Palazzo dei Priori, around the area of the Etruscan Walls and arch, and also in the area of Via Appia where a historic Medieval aqueduct is located.

Perugia, with its population of 167,000 is not surprising choice at a staring point for RAI. It is a well-known city to many foreign tourists, as well as the location of a University where thousands of foreigners study and learn Italian each year, thus making Perugia one of the best known Italian cities abroad.

The small province of Terni will also be included in the postcards. RAI’s team as well as staff from the Region of Umbria have filmed at the breathtaking Cascata delle Marmore (Marmore Falls). This site is a man-made waterfall created by the ancient Romans standing 165 meters tall, making it the second tallest man-made waterfall in the world!

Due to the travel restrictions in place in 2021, the Netherlands shot footage for the postcards without the artists, and digitally added them later. With no announcement about any artists travelling to Italy yet, this may be RAI’s plan for the 2022 postcards as well.
