Giada: “I love an artist who can sing, dance and give a performance”

After using the X Factor Malta for the past few years as their Eurovision selection method, in 2022 Malta is going back to their longstanding national final show Malta Eurovision Song Contest or MESC for short. With that comes 22 hopefuls who will all be competing for the ticket to Turin! Over the next two weeks join us for our series of interviews with the artists in the lead up to the show.

Next up its Giada, who is taking part with her song “Revelación”!

David: Welcome back to MESC! You competed previously in 2017 and then did well on the X Factor Malta making it all the way to Judges Houses. What made you decide to enter MESC again this year?

Giada: Experiencing MESC back in 2017 was a dream come through because Eurovision is something I follow every year and I’ve been doing so since I was a little girl. My experience in X Factor Malta was something to treasure and to learn from it too since I believe they are two completely different experiences. I Honestly couldn’t wait for the MESC to return because it gives all artists the chance to create what they dream about.

David: This year you’ll be performing “Revelación” at the contest. Tell us more about the song, working with the team behind it and why you chose this to be your entry?

Giada: Originally when I first spoke to Aidan and told him what I wanted exactly I didn’t have in mind to enter MESC, but as soon as REVELACIÓN was created we both agreed that it had to be submitted. REVELACIÓN: a modern, RNB/Reggaeton song is a deep love song but it speaks about how sometimes relationships happen to be “too good to be true” and the person I’m describing in my song although I’m addicted to him by time, I’m finding out surprises which show how much of a snake he truly is.

David: You have recently started performing under the name Giada. What is the story behind your stage name and where does it come from?

Giada: From a young age my dad used to call me Giada as a cheeky way of calling his daughter and it was initially his wish to name me GIADA as well. Recently I wanted to have an identity for my artistry and decided to make GIADA as my stage name which is basically Jade in Italian.

David: The snippet we’ve heard of your song gives us pop perfection and a very modern sound. How would you describe your artistry and who are your biggest musical influences?

Giada: My biggest musical influences must be Beyonce, Jessie J and Rhianna. I love an artist who can sing, dance and give a performance so effortlessly and mainly these 3 artists in my opinion can do that. Having said that, that is what I’m working and aiming for since a lot know that apart from singing, dance is another passion of mine.

David: Eurovision is huge in Malta! What would it mean to you personally to represent your nation at the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin?

Giada: Eurovision is a huge platform for every artist so representing Malta would be a big milestone for my career apart from having the chance to showcase my gem REVELACIÓN on a bigger platform.

David: We like to throw a random question in the mix… your Instagram mentions you love to travel, so where is the best place you’ve ever been and why?

Giada: An interesting country I visited would have to be Poland. They have an interesting culture and amazing spots to visit in general. The best part of the holiday would have to be when we went for a ride with sledges on the snow.

David: Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. Best of luck in the contest! Did you have any message for your fans?

Giada: My message to my followers is always that with big determination everyone can achieve and arrive where they want to arrive and so they should not be discouraged.

The semi final for Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2022 will be taking place on Thursday 17th February 2022  with the top sixteen performances qualifying for the grand final, which will be taking place on Saturday 19th February 2022.
