LIVE: Festival di Sanremo — Grand Final!

The tensions are at their peak as we head into the Grand Final of the 72nd Sanremo Festival, starting at 20:45 CET. It’s the fifth of five evenings, and so far we’ve been ‘treated’ (depending on your point of view) to over 18 hours of music and entertainment. Of course, the Grand Final will also take place tonight in the Ariston Theatre in Sanremo. Tonight, all 25 acts are going to sing their songs, that we last heard on Thursday night, but in a new running order.

After four shows, the Top 3 on the overall leaderboard are currently:

  1. Mahmood e Blanco – “Brividi
  2. Gianni Morandi – “Apri tutte le porte
  3. Elisa – “O forse sei tu

The final will be opened by the musical band of the Guardia di Finanza which will sing the anthem of Italy, “Il Canto degli Italiani“, reviving a tradition that Amadeus started with the Carabinieri Band in 2020 and then continued last year with the Navy Band.

Tonight’s guests include singer Marco Mengoni who represented Italy at Eurovision 2013 in Malmö. Also expect a tribute to Raffaella Carrà tonight. She was a guest at the Sanremo Festival many times, hosted it once in 2001, and was vital in bringing Italy back to Eurovision in 2011. It’s truly a shame she passed last summer and won’t get to Turin host the event this May.

There will be no performance aboard the Costa Toscana cruise ship tonight. Instead, Orietta Berti and Rovazzi will join Amadeus at the Teatro Ariston.

Tonight, the juries will not vote, their work is done! It all comes down to the final televote. Italians across the the Bel Paese will have their say, and decide the winner of this edition of Sanremo. At the end of the evening, places 25 to 4 will be revelaed, then a new vote for the Top 3 will occur, and after that, we will have a winner! But that’s not before some awards are handed out like the Critics’ Award, Best Lyrics, and Best Composition.
