Germany will select their song for Turin this Friday and we had the big pleasure to meet Eros Atomus, who is competing at “Germany 12 Points” with his self-written song “Alive”.

Eros Atomus is best known for his participation in The Voice Of Germany in 2018. In the blind auditions he performed “Bette Davis Eyes” and the video counts more than 4 million views on YouTube. He made it to the final and ended up fourth overall in the show. The official music video to his single “Colourblind” came out in October 2021.

Eros had a quick chat with us today, just an hour after his first rehearsal in Berlin.

Hey Eros! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us! We are so excited to find out more about you and your participation at “Germany 12 Points”!

What made you apply for the German National Final this year?

Somebody wrote it in the comments that I should do it and first I thought that I would never be able to play for Germany with my unique guitar style and everything. But here I am under the final 6, still with my guitar. And having fun! I’m really looking forward to it!

How did you learn to play the guitar in such a unique and special way?

I taught it myself! I just started playing and then I was just trying out new stuff. I am always trying out new stuff and mostly it goes wrong 😀

Most of the time people are like “No, don’t do it!” but I think that’s what makes an artist. To never give up and to always stay true to yourself. That’s what I love doing!

You wrote the lyrics for “Alive” yourself – what inspired you to write that song?

I got inspired by an old man who is stuck in a wheel chair, because he had a car accident at 17 and a tragic life behind him but still he was so pure of love and so happy. First I wondered why he was so cheerful, because he can’t walk and has had such a sad life. He told me that he got a second chance from life, because he could have died but he didn’t. I think we all need this optimistic thinking right now, with everything going on in the world at the moment. Those of us who are able to live in peace should be thankful for that and we should try our best to make things stay this way. We should also do our best to support Ukraine and to let peace win!

So everyone can get a second chance!

Can you give us a small taste on what your performance will be like?

Well, we still don’t know what kind of background is going to be behind me. I really can’t decide! There are a lot of professionals helping me but we still didn’t get to the final version.

Why do you think you’re the right performer for Eurovision?

There is no right performer! All the six participants are great!

I’m just really happy to be here, I love making music. But I think that I’m quite international and also have a unique guitar style. It maybe could end up great for Germany and I’m trying my best to represent Germany as good as I can and the most important thing for me is to inspire other people. I really think that my song has the positive message, that we all need in such dark times!

And finally, what would you like to say to our international readers?

Take care and stay safe! We all need to stay optimistic and have to be glad that we’re still alive!
