Lauri Ylönen revealed that Darude asked him to be the vocalist of Finland’s Eurovision 2019 entry!

Last Saturday The Rasmus became the Finnish Eurovision representative 2022, when the band won Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) 2022 with their song Jezebel. Lauri Ylönen, the vocalist of the band, could’ve been seen on Eurovision stage already in 2019, if the singer had accepted the offer made for him before UMK 2019. Ylönen revealed today in the interview of Radio Rock that the Finnish DJ legend and Eurovision 2019 representative Darude asked him to be the vocalist of Finland’s 2019 Eurovision entry. This is what Ylönen told in the interview:

I can reveal that Darude asked me to sing that Eurovision song. I considered it for several weeks. I like Sandstorm. It’s a totally crazy song! I maybe would have gone to that direction myself, but Darude had a little bit more pop feelings. So in the end I skipped it, but thank you Mr. Darude for asking.

Ylönen also listed three things that would’ve needed to meet for that collaboration:

There have to be the right kind of chemistry, feelings and song motifs.

In the end, the vocals of Finnish Eurovision entry 2019 was sung by Sebastian Rejman. You can rewatch the performance from Tel Aviv here:
