Lift: We are preparing a year filled with gigs and songs

Our editor Matt spoke to the band Lift who are going to be taking part in the 1st Semi Final of this year’s Pesma za Evroviziju ’22

Hi guys. Congratulations on being chosen for Pesma za Evroviziju ’22! How did you first get into music?

We all had different beginnings, some of us started in early childhood, some of us later, but we all got into music out of passion for playing and creating.

How did you guys meet?
We met in school, well, some of us did, but we are all friends growing up.

How did you get involved in this year’s Pesma za Evroviziju ’22?
We sent in our song to the broadcaster RTS and waited for judges to choose which songs will be competing. We had been working hard on our song so we were confident in our song being chosen.

What’s your song about?
On a surface level, our song is about having to deal with all the drama a relationship brings, but if you look into it a bit deeper, you’ll discover that the song can be about any situation in our lives because life is filled with drama.

What inspires your music?
Our love for creation is what inspires us most. We try to stay on the positive side and we think that music is a remedy when you are feeling down. You could say that we are trying to lift up peoples spirits with our music, which is one of the meanings behind our name.

How will you stage your song?
Our performance is going to be energetic, blink and you might miss it. The song requires us to be on the move and we will bring it to life on stage.

Are you guys fans of Eurovision?
We love to watch Eurovision, it started from our early years, watching with parents, rooting for our country and our favourite songs. It’s a tradition.

What’s your favourite Eurovision song?
We all have our favourites, but as a band we can agree on Sunstroke Project & Olia Tira – Run Away from Moldova in 2010.

What’s your favourite song from Serbia?
One of our favourites is Cipela by Marko Kon. It’s a bit different from other songs and somehow it’s fun to remember it.

What’s your favourite Non Eurovision song?
It’s hard to find a favourite among five band members, but I think Blinding Lights by The Weeknd is in the top 5 since we are including it in our gigs.

What singers inspire you?
Again, as a band we would probably have to agree on people from our favourite bands and musicians Muse, Linkin Park, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars and many others.

Do you have a message for your fans?
To all our fans from Serbia, we invite them to vote for our song and help us reach Turin. And if we do reach it, all our international fans will be able to vote for us there. Either way, they can follow us on our social pages, because, no matter how this goes, we are preparing a year filled with gigs and songs.

Thanks so much for talking to us guys. Wishing you the best of luck in the competition!
