Morten Fillipsen: It’s 20 years since I was in MGP Junior

Our editor Matt spoke to Morten Fillipsen who’ll be competing in this year’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.

Hi Morten. Congratulations on being chosen for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix! How did you first get into music?

I am a 35 years old singer and songwriter from Hunderup near Ribe, Jutland. I started playing music when I was around five years old. I think I came naturally. I loved singing and playing music so when I had the opportunity to be in the children’s National Song Contest back in 2002 I took the chance.

You can see Morten’s entry from MGP Junior Du er ikke som de andre pi’r below. The song placed in 4th position.

How were you chosen for DMGP?

The last ten years I’ve been writing songs in English for our band The Grenadines and for myself as In Memoirs. But lately I started writing songs in Danish. This year it is twenty years since I was in the children’s song contest so it felt natural to return to Danish with this year’s song contest.

What’s your song about?

It’s about a guy who lets all of his worries behind him

What inspires your music?

There are so many artists and bands who inspire me on a daily basis. Bon Iver, Prince, Sting and The Beatles, just to mention a few.

How will you stage the song?

It’s going to be live and groovy. And with a little bit of dancing.

Are you fan of Eurovision? When did you first start watching it?

I am not a super fan. To be honest. But I watch it to support the Danish contribution πŸ™‚ But not every year.

What’s your favourite Eurovision song?

‘Waterloo’ with Abba.

What’s been your favourite song that Denmark have sent to Eurovision?

Choosing one of the Danish songs at Eurovision it would be ‘Skibet skal sejle i nat’

What’s your favourite non Eurovision song?

What A Fool Believes with Doobie Brothers

Some random questions: Who’s the last person you messaged?

My brother thanking him for a lovely holiday in Switzerland

If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be?

Matt LeBlanc – He seems as a funny and easy going guy

Thanks so much for your time Morten! Wishing you the best of luck in the competition!
