Petra:”Ireligious is about those who have lost their faith in love”

We’re preparing for the Romanian National Final, which is going to take place this weekend. Ten acts will battle for the Eurovision ticket and we had the chance to talk with Petra about her participation in the contest. Petra is born in Moldova but she lives in Romania and it’s on her second try for Eurovision. You can find out more details in our interview down below.

Hello Petra and thank you for taking you time for ESCBubble! First of all, how was your reaction when you heard you will be in the Selecția Națională 2022 Final?
Hello! Thank you! I was very excited. Although I had a lot of experience in competitions in my childhood and adolescence, Eurovision brought me some huge emotions which I like. It’s a little bit sad when some people have to leave the competition, only because in general art is subjective and you can’t satisfy everyone. In the selection I saw very good performers and that made me happy and motivated.

You are from Moldova, how did you decide to compete in Romania this time? It feels different than competing in Moldova? As we know you tried representing your country in 2020 with Andreea Portărescu.
I have dual citizenship, and since last year I have moved to Romania, which is now my home. I also love the country I grew up in, Moldova, but living in Romania it is much easier to compete.

Tell us more about your song “Ireligios”, what’s the message behind it and was it specially written for Eurovision?
“Ireligious” is about those who have lost their faith in love. Also, the song was not composed specifically for Eurovision. The song is a riot and even if it is not so mainstream and it is harder to discover, it has quality and depth. I wrote “Ireligioas” with incredibly talented musicians, with Gabriel Huiban music / lyrics and for the arrangement part Gabriel Huiban collaborated with one of the best violin and brass arrangers in the world, Mattias Bylund. Mattias writtes arrangements for The Weekend, Arianna, M. Bubble, Elton John, J Timberlake and many more.

If you are going to represent Romania at Eurovision, you will keep your song in Romanian or do you have an English version in mind?
Yes, I have an English version prepared in case I win Selecția Națională 2022.

How are going the rehearsals for Selecția Națională 2022 Final? Can you tease us a little bit, what can we expect from your performance in the final?
I can’t give many details but all I can say is that we will change the show for the final. It remains a surprise.

Do you have any specific influences by any artist in your music or in the way you work?
I found my inspiration in Adele’s and Lana del Rey’s songs, but there are others as well.

Are you following Eurovision? What’s your all time favorite song from the contest?I really like “Euphoria” by Loreen! And from the Romanian representatives I like Paula Seling & Ovi with the song “Miracle”!

Any other plans for 2022? Can we expect new music from Petra?
Yes, I have at least six music videos to film and I’ve written a lot of songs, ready to be released.

In the end, I want to thank you for your time and please, if you have a message for your fans and our readers here on ESCBubble?
Love yourself, listen to good music and live the moment! Thank you for your support, kisses!
