Sam Ryder representing the UK with ‘Space Man’

In possibly the worst kept secret in Eurovision history, the UK Broadcaster has confirmed this morning that their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest will be Sam Ryder with his song “Space Man”.

The rumours started a week ago when Sam cancelled some concerts and BBC Radio 1 and Eurovision commentator Scott Mills made Sam’s song the record of the week, with a new 3 minute edit version.

Sam is an internet sensation, with over 12 million followers on TikTok following his uploading of cover versions during lockdown.

BBC have teamed up with music management company Tap Music and Sam’s connections have seen him chosen to fly the flag in Turin in May

Radio 1 DJ Greg James invited Scott Mills on to his breakfast program for the announcement. Scott stated that the choice was made differently this year, they’ve seen that Italy got behind Maneskin last year and their success has proved that global success is possible.  Eurovision is different now and they want the UK to realise that they have to get behind our act and be proud and stop sneering at the contest. Scott recognised that the Eurovision fans are passionate, and has seen the clues left, he described them as “easter eggs” deliberately left!

The official video has now appeared on the Eurovision channel – enjoy!
