Noa Kirel will represent Israel at Eurovision Song Contest 2023!

Today the public broadcaster of Israel, KAN has revealed their representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2023. Noa Kirel is the artist selected to represent the country.

Noa was selected internally by a 10-member committee which included KAN executives, musicians and other professionals appointed by IPBC. In the first phase of the selection, the committee had to choose an artist from a shortlist of 78 candidates. During the second phase of the selection, each of the committee members suggested two names from the list for further deliberation. The final stage included a ranking of the suggested artists and Noa Kirel was the first choice to represent Israel at Eurovision.

Her management said that she will be proud to represent Israel at the contest. This is the first time since 2014 that Israel has gone for an internal selection of their artist for Eurovision Song Contest when it was decided that Mei Finegold would be the artist to represent them.

In addition to that decision, the committee has also chosen artists which represented the country a while ago including Ilanit (1973 & 1977), Rita (1990) and the winner of Eurovision 1998, Dana International.

Noa Kirel is a 21 year old Israeli singer born in Ra’anana. She released her first single “Medabrim” at the age of 13.  She has released songs both in Hebrew and English. Songs which brought her popularity in Israel include “Killer,Trilili Tralala”  and “Million Dollar“. In the last year, she started releasing more songs in English such as “Please Don’t Suck” and “Thought About That“. She performed her song “Bad Little Thing” at last year’s Miss Universe.

It still hasn’t been revealed if a special national final will be held to determine Noa’s Eurovision entry or whether the song will be selected internally. At Eurovision 2022, Israel was represented by Michael Ben David who sang “I.M”. He didn’t manage to qualify to the Grand Final as he finished in 13th place in the second semi-final with 61 points.
