Azerbaijan’s Eurovision entrant Nadir Rüstəmli releases new single “Lənətli Şəhərin”

Nadir Rüstəmli, who represented Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin this year, has just released his first single since Eurovision and also his first ever song in his native language Azeri. This comes as a very pleasant surprise, as the Eurovision representatives from Azerbaijan have hardly ever sung in their native language. The song is called “Lənətli Şəhər” which roughly translates as “The Cursed City” in English and talks about a person who broke his trust and is the curse of the city, so it is persumably a love song.

Lənətli Şəhər” features Nadir’s strong vocals that we already know from Eurovision, but is a lot more unconventional and comes with an unxpected beat drop. You can listen to the new single here!

Nadir’s love for Eurovision has already been visible during his participation in The Voice of Azerbaijan, which he won in 2021. He was on the team of Eldar Gasimov, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf. During the competition, he has performed both the winning song of his coach, “Running Scared“, as well as the first ever Azerbaijani Eurovision entry from 2008 “Day After Day“.

We had the pleasure to meet Nadir in the press center of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin and had a delightful interview with him, which you can watch through this link!

At this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Nadir represented Azerbaijan with the song “Fade To Black” and managed to qualify to the Grand Final, where he ended up in a respectable 16th place. You can re-watch his final performance here!

How do you like Nadir’s new single? Do you think we should hear Azerbaijan’s national language more often in Eurovision? Let us know your thoughts in the comments and on our social media profiles! @escbubble
