SVT opens submissions for Melodifestivalen 2023

The Swedish EBU broadcaster SVT has just opened the submissions for Melodifestivalen 2023. Both Swedish and international submissions are welcome and artists, producers and composer will be able to hand in a song through this link until the 16th of September at 23:59 CET.

After this year’s Melodifestivalen winner Cornelia Jakobs won two awards at Rockbjörnen, the Melodifestivalen Instagram account has congratulated her on the huge success:

Huge congratulations to our Melodifestivalen winner Cornelia who won the Swedish Song Of The Year & Breakthrough Of The Year Award last night at Rockbjörnen!! 🎉 Are you sitting on the winning song of next year? You can now soon send in your entry to us!! The submissions open on the 26th of August on bidrag.melodifestivalen.se. We are looking forward to listen to your entries! ✨

In a seperate Instagram post, they have also revealed that the rules for next year’s Melodifestivalen will slightly change!

One remarkable change is that an entry, that has once been selected for the competition cannot be revoked unilaterally. As in the past years, there will be a total of 28 competing songs, but the selection process will also change for 2023:

14 of the competing entries will be chosen by a selected jury and the other 14 will be chosen by the SVT and likely consist a few SVT invitees.

Antoher change is that nMelodifestivalen will finally be back on tour in 2023 and the cities that were planned for 2022, will hold next year’s tour instead. All tickets purchased for the 2022 tour will be valid for the same city for 2023, as confirmed by SVT. The dates for all six shows are:

Deltävling 1: Gothenburg, 4 February 2023

Deltävling 2: Linköping, 11 February 2023

Deltävling 3: Lidköping, 18 February 2023

Deltävling 4: Malmö, 25 February 2023

Semi-Final: Örnsköldsvik, 4 March 2023

Grand Final: Stockholm, 11 March 2023

Furthermore, in case you have not purchased tickets for 2023 yet but would like to see Sweden’s biggest TV show live, Ticketmaster has announced that a new wave of tickets for Melodifestivalen 2023 will be available from the 1st of November 2022, starting at 10:00 CET. You can save their website right now, as tickets will be available through this link. We will make sure to remind you to buy tickets, a few days ahead though!

Last year’s Melodifestivalen was won by Cornelia Jakobs with “Hold Me Closer”, who did a great job representing Sweden in Turin this year, finishing in an impressive second place with the juries and in fourth place overall. You can re-watch her performance in the grand final here:
