New changes for the upcoming Selecția Națională 2023

TVR stated a new format for Selecția Națională 2023, after many years where the jury had a bigger impact of choosing the song for Eurovision, this year the song will be entirely choosen by the public! It’s still unknown how the whole procces will work, but TVR will open its song submission in the next few days and publish the rules for Selecția Națională 2023.

The last time when the winner was selected by the public was in 2018 when The Humans won with the song “Goodbye”. However in 2018 the finalists were selected by the jury, so maybe a similiar format will be used for 2023.

TVR’s Project Manager, Mihai Predescu stated: “We are a new team and we propose a different Eurovision contest, based on transparency, professionalism and digitization. We changed the voting system: only the public will choose the song that will represent Romania.”

Last year Romania was represented by WRS and his song “Llámame”. He finished 18th in the Grand Final with 65 points but his song went viral on Spotify in Spain and became a summer hit.
